Direct Store Delivery (DSD)
Introduction
Direct Store Delivery enables retailers to receive electronic invoices, thus eliminating the need for a paper invoice. CCS has developed a set of software and hardware products that enable retailers to capture the electronic invoice from a vendors handheld computer. Then using a Symbol Technologies hand held, receive the incoming product against the invoice in real-time. This close loop process assures that all discrepancies are identified and resolved while the vendor is in store, thus significantly reducing errors.
Functional Overview
The system consists of three components: The RF DEX port, an NT DEX Parser application and Symbol PDT68XX handheld and receiving application. The RF DEX port accepts the vendors DEX cable and transmits the DEX data stream over the Spectrum 24 network to the DEX Parsing Application. The Parsing application translates the DEX protocol and inserts the appropriate data elements into the customers database. The PDT68XX runs a receiving application that uses the customers database to receive and verify the products and product counts against the vendors invoice.
Application Overview
The DEX parsing application is an NT service that provides all of the required functionality to receive and create DEX 894 and 895 record sets. A unique feature of the parser is that it is designed to support any existing customer databases such as SQL or Access. In addition to supporting CCS's wireless RF DEX port, the parser can also support hard wired DEX environments. The receiving application will support any Symbol series 3000 handheld.
