VT Terminal Emulation

The TN/VT client enables Symbol Technologies RF devices to function as VT devices. In other words, the RF device looks and acts like a locally attached VT device when connected to a host computer which supports the TCP/IP, Telnet and VT 100/220 emulation protocols.

Features

The TN/VT Client supports the following Symbol Technologies Spectrum 24 RF terminals:

  • PDT 6842
  • PDT 6846
  • PDT 3142/6142
  • PDT 3146/6146
  • VRC 6946/6942

The TN/VT Client supports the following software features:

  • Support for VT 100/220
  • Support for Symbol’s 1mB DOS Flash disk Series 3000 terminals
  • Support for BOOTP and DHCP standards of assigning TCP/IP configuration values to the terminal from a network server
  • Screen panning
  • Support for all major barcode symbologies
  • Support for wireless IP printing to Comtec printers equipped with the CCS RFPM (Radio Frequency IP/Printer Module)
  • Support for up to four concurrent login sessions per radio terminal
  • Menu selection of up to 16 servers per terminal
  • Support for cabled barcode printers, such as Comtec and Monarch
  • Support for custom function key definition
  • Support for automatic login
  • Support for custom error messages
  • Support for system configuration by scanning barcodes
  • Support for monitoring association with Spectrum24® Access Point. An out-of-range message displays on the terminal to the user and does not send data.
System Environment

Symbol Technologies Environment

In addition to the host system, the TN/VT client requires the use of Symbol Technologies Spectrum 24® RF Networking products, specifically the family of Spectrum 24® terminals and Symbol Spectrum 24® RF Access Points. The RF terminals communicate with the host computer through the Access Point. An Ethernet connection links the Access Point to the host and or application server(s).

Server/ Host Environment

Server Hardware

Host computers include UNIX, IBM, DEC, HP and PC systems that support VT 100/220 emulation. In addition to VT emulation support, the host must also support TCP/IP and requires a Telnet server or Telnet daemon. Host connection requires loading the Spectrum24 TN Client on to a Spectrum24® terminal and configuring the terminal as a TCP/IP device.
